Whether you’re in Clonmel for a weekend escape or a hometown stroll, this town has more to offer than you might think. From scenic trails and secret ruins to great coffee (ahem), here’s your guide to the top things to do in Clonmel — with tips straight from your friends at Bodega Cafe.

🏰 1. Explore the Clonmel Heritage Trail

Clonmel’s history stretches back to medieval times, and the Clonmel Heritage Trail is a fantastic way to explore it. This self-guided walking route winds through town and brings you past places like the West Gate, St. Mary's Church, and sections of the old town walls. Keep an eye out for plaques and maps along the route — it’s a quiet, fascinating way to understand the town’s past without needing a guide.

🕓 Give yourself an hour or two, depending on how often you stop for coffee (which should be often).

🌿 2. Walk (or cycle) the Suir Blueway

The Suir Blueway stretches over 21km between Clonmel and Carrick-on-Suir, following the river and offering some of the most peaceful, lush scenery in the county. You can walk, run, or cycle the trail, which is mostly flat and well-maintained — perfect for families, solo adventurers, or just stretching the legs after lunch.

🚲 Bike hire is available nearby — or just enjoy a slow stroll with a coffee in hand.

☕ 3. Stop at Bodega Cafe (Obviously)

You’ll need fuel for your exploring, and we’re ready for you. Bodega Cafe is your go-to spot for specialty coffee, fresh, local food, and a welcoming space to take five. Grab a BLT and an iced coffee, tuck into a flatbread, or go all out with our Full Irish — available ‘til 11:45am.

🪑 We’ve even got outdoor seating when the sun shows up (rare but appreciated). www.bodegacafe.ie

🎨 4. Catch a Show at Junction Arts Centre

The heart of Clonmel’s creative scene, the Junction Arts Centre is home to everything from experimental theatre and contemporary dance to live music and local storytelling. If you’re around during Clonmel Junction Arts Festival in July, the town comes alive with performances and events in every corner — including unexpected pop-ups.

🎟️ Check the programme online or drop into the box office on Nelson Street. https://junctionfestival.com/

🛍 5. Browse the Shops on O’Connell Street

You won’t find mega malls here, and that’s the charm. O’Connell Street is lined with independent boutiques, bookshops, florists, and gift stores. Pick up handmade pieces, local produce, or just browse at your own pace. It's a good place to grab a treat and support local while you’re at it.

🛒 Insider tip: pop into The Narrow Space if you’re into Irish art and craft.

🐾 6. Take a Stroll at Carey’s Castle

Just a short drive or cycle from Clonmel, Carey’s Castle is a peaceful woodland spot featuring mysterious old ruins and river trails. The castle isn’t open to explore inside, but the site is atmospheric, shaded, and a bit magical. Ideal for dog walks, kid-friendly exploring, or a quiet moment in nature.

🌲 Great for a low-key adventure just outside town. https://www.discoverireland.ie/tipperary/carey-s-castle

🍏 7. Time Your Visit for Applefest (or the Farmers Market)

Each September, Clonmel Applefest brings the town to life with a mix of harvest celebrations, local food, music, arts, and nature events. It’s the perfect combo of tradition and fun — and a brilliant showcase of what Clonmel’s all about.

If you’re in town on a Friday, check out the Farmers Market on Market Street for fresh bread, pastries, cheese, flowers, and friendly faces.

🍎 Both are great excuses to eat well — and return for seconds. https://www.clonmelapplefest.ie/

🎶 8. Catch Some Live Music

Whether it’s a gig in Gleesons, a trad session in Mulcahy’s, or a summer pop-up in a public space, Clonmel has a low-key but lively music scene. Follow local pubs and Junction Festival pages on Instagram to stay in the loop.

🎤 You never know what you'll stumble upon on a Friday night.

⚽ 9. Play a Round of Footgolf at Slievenamon Golf Club

Yes, it’s exactly what it sounds like — football meets golf, and it’s as fun as it is chaotic (in the best way). Just outside Clonmel, Slievenamon Golf Club offers a full Footgolf course that's great for families, groups of friends, or anyone up for a laugh in the fresh air.

You’ll kick a football around a proper golf-style course, aiming for oversized holes instead of flags. No experience needed — just decent aim and a bit of competitive spirit.

👟 Perfect for kids, groups, or adults who still think they’ve “got it. https://www.slievenamongolfclub.com/adventure-golf

🍷 10. Wind Down with Dinner at Bodega 1830

Our evening restaurant is open Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 9pm, serving up a fresh evening menu with bold flavours, comforting classics, and a few cheeky cocktails to finish it all off.
